How to Choose the Right Facial Oil: Rosehip vs Argan vs Jojoba vs Bakuchiol
Face oils aren’t one-size-fits-all. The right choice depends on your skin goals — smoothing fine lines, evening tone, balancing oil, or comforting dryness and sensitivity. This guide compares four customer favourites — Rosehip, Argan, Jojoba and Bakuchiol — all cold-pressed, skin-kind and free from added fragrance.
Quick Match: Pick Your Oil by Skin Goal
Fine lines & texture:Bakuchiol Oil — a gentle, plant-derived retinol alternative for a smoother look.
Uneven tone & post-blemish marks:Rosehip Oil — supports a more even-looking complexion and radiant finish.
Shine-balance & sensitivity:Jojoba Oil — lightweight, sebum-like feel that helps balance without heaviness.
Dryness & fragile barrier:Argan Oil — comforting, with a soft, nourishing finish.
Why These Four?
All four are cold-pressed to preserve nutrients, suitable for daily use, and made to Conscious Skincare standards — vegan, cruelty-free and crafted with care in Wales. If your skin is sensitive, the absence of added fragrance (or any other unnecessary ingredients) can make a noticeable difference to daily comfort.
Rosehip vs Argan vs Jojoba vs Bakuchiol: What’s the Difference?
Rosehip Oil — Even Tone & Post-Blemish Care
Rosehip Oil has a lightweight feel that supports the look of a brighter, more even complexion. It’s a popular night step after toning and before moisturiser. Many customers reach for rosehip when skin looks a little dull or uneven, scarring, or after breakouts to keep the complexion looking calm and balanced. [1]
Skin feel: Light, sinks in well
Great for: Uneven tone, post-blemish marks, dullness, wrinkles
Pairs with: Gentle exfoliation 1× weekly and daily SPF
Argan Oil — Comfort & Barrier Support
Argan Oil brings a soft, cushioned finish that’s especially welcome when skin feels dry or tight — or in colder months. It layers well at night as the last step to seal in hydration and keep the skin feeling comfortable. [2]
Skin feel: Silky, comforting
Great for: Dryness, tight-feeling skin, seasonal sensitivity
Pairs with:Rose Toner or your moisturiser; use as a final step to lock in hydration
Jojoba Oil — Balance & Simplicity
Jojoba Oil has a composition that’s similar in feel to skin’s natural oils, making it a brilliant everyday option when you want lightweight comfort without shine. Makeup tends to sit nicely over jojoba, so it’s a popular morning step as well. [3] Small studies suggest linoleic acid, applied to the skin, can help keep pores clearer. [4]
Skin feel: Featherlight, non-greasy
Great for: Combination or oily-prone skin, simple AM routines
Pairs with: Clarifying toners and light moisturisers
Bakuchiol Oil — A Gentle, Plant-Derived Retinol Alternative
Bakuchiol Oil is a botanical option often chosen when traditional retinoids feel too strong. It’s used to support a smoother, more refined look to skin texture with good day-to-day tolerance. [5]
Skin feel: Lightweight, smooth-finish
Great for: Fine lines, texture, a smoother-looking complexion
Pairs with: Vitamin C by day and hydrating serums at night; daily SPF
Face oil — 1–3 drops; press into slightly damp skin
Moisturiser if needed, then SPF
Evening
Cleanse (double cleanse if wearing SPF/makeup)
Tone (optional)
Face oil — Rosehip for tone, Bakuchiol for texture, Argan for comfort, Jojoba for balance
Moisturiser (optional) to seal
Can You Combine Oils?
Yes. You can blend a drop of two oils in your palm (for example, Rosehip + Jojoba) or alternate by day and night. Keep amounts small — 1–3 drops is usually enough for face and neck.
FAQs
Which oil should I start with for sensitive skin?
Jojoba is a simple, lightweight first step. If you’d like a smoother look to skin texture with gentle day-to-day use, consider Bakuchiol.
Can facial oils clog pores?
Used in small amounts (1–3 drops) on clean, damp skin, these lightweight options are designed to sit comfortably without heaviness. If you’re oily-prone, start with Jojoba or try Rosehip at night.
Are these oils suitable during pregnancy?
Many customers choose Jojoba, Argan and Rosehip for simple, gentle routines. Bakuchiol is often selected as a plant-derived alternative to retinoids. If you’re unsure, please check with your GP.

I completely forgot consciousness skincare did hand care. I absolutely love this and never do without. I have been experiencing extreme dry sore hands. I tried so many things and nothing left my skin feeling soft and smooth. Definitely recommend for any person who are going through over menopause or peri a real treat and rescue.
I have very dry skin relating to perimenopause. Tried lots of different things and nothing really worked. I just don't understand why I didn't try sooner because we are frequent users of consciousness skincare. It's just perfect keeps my skin soft and free from itchy, sore skin.
I bought this for a friend who has an immune disorder which causes her to be allergic to a lot of ingredients in normal moisturisers and her skin will also react for no reason to particles in the air. This oil soothes her skin and seems to protect it from airborn allergens. On a side note, my husband through his own stupidity burnt the backs of his legs from too much sun. We put the rose hip oil on it liberally and cooled the area with cool packs. The result was amazing overnight. No pain, no heat and no peeling.
