Not Sure What Your Skin Type Is?

Skin can change over time, and it is not always obvious which products are going to suit you best. You may notice dryness through your cheeks, oiliness around your forehead and nose, increased sensitivity, or changes in how your skin feels as it matures.

If you are asking “what is my skin type?”, the best place to start is by paying attention to how your skin naturally looks and feels before trying to fit it neatly into one category.

At Conscious Skincare, our facial ranges are designed around four broad groups of skin needs: normal or combination, dry or sensitive, oily or blemish-prone, and mature skin.

How to Know Your Skin Type

A simple way to get a better idea of your skin type is to gently cleanse your face, leave it free from moisturiser, serum or oil for a little while, and then notice how it feels.

Many people do not fit perfectly into just one description. Your skin may be dry and sensitive, mature and combination, or oily in one area and comfortable in another.

That is completely normal, and it is why we encourage you to choose products according to what your skin actually needs rather than feeling that every product in your routine must come from the same range.

Our Four Skincare Ranges

Our facial skincare has been created around four broad skin needs, with each range given its own colour to make the products easier to recognise.

Enrich – Normal & Combination Skin

If your skin is generally well balanced but becomes a little oily in some areas and drier in others, our Enrich range for normal and combination skin may be a good place to start.

Rejuvenate – Mature Skin

If your skin is becoming drier, less supple or showing more visible lines, explore our Rejuvenate range for mature skin.

Gentle – Dry & Sensitive Skin

If your skin frequently feels tight, dry or easily irritated, our Gentle range for dry and sensitive skin has been created with these needs in mind.

Neutralize – Oily & Blemish-Prone Skin

If excess oil, congestion or breakouts are your main concern, take a look at our Neutralize range for oily and blemish-prone skin.

What If I Have More Than One Skin Type?

Different areas of the face can behave differently. Your cheeks might feel dry while your chin or forehead becomes oily. Your skin can also change with the seasons, central heating, hormones, stress or other everyday factors.

We are not prescriptive about sticking to one complete range. In fact, we encourage you to mix and match products where that works better for your skin.

For example, you might prefer a Gentle cleanser but find an Enrich moisturiser works particularly well on your skin. The aim is to build a routine that feels comfortable and practical for you.

Try Samples Before Committing to a Full Size

If you are new to Conscious Skincare, trying smaller sizes first can be a useful way to find out how your skin responds before committing to a full-size product.

When changing your skincare routine, it can also be sensible to introduce products gradually rather than replacing everything at once. This makes it much easier to see which products your skin particularly likes.

Changing from Another Skincare Brand?

If you are moving from your current products to natural and organic skincare, give yourself a little time to get used to the new routine.

Rather than introducing several new products at the same time, you may prefer to change one step at a time. That gives you a clearer idea of how each new cleanser, moisturiser, serum or oil feels on your skin.

Patch Testing New Skincare

If your skin is sensitive or you are trying an unfamiliar product, a patch test is a sensible precaution.

Apply a small amount of the product to a discreet area of skin and monitor the area before using it more widely. If you notice irritation or an unwanted reaction, stop using the product.

Still Unsure About Your Skin Type?

Sometimes it is difficult to decide exactly which description fits, particularly if your skin has several different needs.

You can browse all our ranges on the Skincare by Skin Type page, or get in touch with us if you would like help choosing between products.

Getting to know your skin is more useful than trying to force it into a perfect category. Notice how it feels, how it changes and which products leave it feeling comfortable. From there, you can build a routine that suits you.
