How to Build a Skincare Routine with Conscious Skincare

If you want to know how to build a skincare routine, start with a few simple steps: cleanse, refresh, apply your treatment products, then moisturise. This guide shows how to use Conscious Skincare products in a calm, practical order, whether you prefer a simple routine or enjoy adding serums, oils and weekly extras.

Our products come with directions on the label, and many product listings also include helpful videos. Use this page to help decide which skincare products you need, which order to apply them in, and how to adjust your routine to suit your skin.

New to Your Products? Start Here

If you have arrived here from your Conscious Skincare parcel, welcome. This guide will help you understand the best order to use your products, how to patch test, how to store natural creams, and where to find refills or extra help.

For most routines, start simply: cleanse, tone or spritz, apply serum, use face oil if needed, moisturise, and apply SPF as the final step in your morning routine.

If you are new to our range, we recommend trying our sample sizes first. Samples are a useful way to see how a product feels on your skin before choosing a full size.

We also recommend that you perform a straightforward skin patch test before you start using a new product.

A Skin Patch Test

As with any product, if you experience any reaction at any time, stop using the product immediately.

Your Simple Daily Skincare Routine Order

  1. Cleanse – remove make-up, SPF, daily build-up and impurities.
  2. Tone or spritz – refresh skin and remove final traces after cleansing.
  3. Apply serum – use a few drops before moisturiser.
  4. Use face oil if needed – optional, usually best in the evening or when skin feels dry.
  5. Moisturise – finish with your day or night cream.
  6. Apply SPF in the morning – use your chosen sunscreen separately as your final daytime step.

Not every routine needs every product. If you are asking what skin care products should I use, a cleanser and moisturiser are the best starting point. You can then add toner, serum, face oil or exfoliator as your routine becomes more tailored.

Step 1: Start With Cleansing

If you are wondering what order should I do my skincare, cleansing comes first. Freshly cleansed skin helps the rest of your routine feel more comfortable and allows serums, oils and moisturisers to be applied evenly.

Natural Make Up Remover

Apply a small amount of Make Up Melt to a dampened cotton pad and sweep over your face to remove make-up, SPF and daily build-up. Gently massage over areas with heavier make-up. Repeat until all make-up is removed.

Face Wash

Apply a small amount of face wash to wet hands and make a lather. Gently massage over your face, being careful to avoid the eyes as the wash may sting. Rinse off with warm water.

If you are unsure what cleanser should I use, choose by skin type: Rejuvenate for mature skin, Gentle for dry or sensitive-feeling skin, Enrich for normal or combination skin, and Neutralize for oily or blemish-prone skin.

Step 2: Tone or Spritz

Apply your organic face toner to a cotton pad and sweep over your face after cleansing. This helps remove final traces and leaves skin feeling fresh.

You can also use floral water as a spritz after flying or travel, or when your skin feels dry because of air conditioning or heating.

Step 3: Apply Serum Before Moisturiser

If you want to know how to use face serum, apply a few drops to clean fingertips and press them together gently to warm the product. Massage onto your face where your skin needs particular attention. Allow the serum to absorb, then blot off any excess with a tissue if needed.

For most routines, serum comes before moisturiser because it is a lighter leave-on step. For more detail, read our guide to serum or moisturiser first.

Step 4: Use Face Oil If Needed

Our organic cold pressed oils can be used in several ways. Face oils are optional; they are often most useful in the evening, when skin feels dry, or when you want to add extra nourishment to your routine.

Argan oil can be used as a hair treatment. Rosehip seed oil makes a beautiful facial treatment for the face, neck and décolletage. Hemp oil is a light, quickly absorbed oil, while jojoba oil can also be used on nail cuticles, hair ends or as a light body moisturiser.

Step 5: Finish With Face Cream

Our moisturisers are rich, so you only need a small amount. Apply a pea-sized amount to clean skin and gently massage in. Allow your skin to absorb the cream, then apply a little more if required.

Use your day cream in the morning and your night cream in the evening. If you are wondering what order to apply skincare, moisturiser usually comes after serum and after any optional face oil.

The creams can also be mixed with foundation to add extra comfort and help stop foundation looking caked.

Weekly Extras: Exfoliator and Body Care

Apply a small amount of exfoliant to clean fingertips and massage over your face in gentle, light, circular movements. Avoid the eye area. Rinse off with warm water.

Use once or twice a week to give new skin cells a chance to develop and to avoid over-stripping, which can lead to redness or irritation.

You can also build your routine beyond facial care with natural body care, body washes and refill options where available.

Looking After Your Creams and Natural Products

Our creams are designed to melt on contact with your skin so that they can be absorbed easily. Store them in a cool, dry place, away from direct heat or light sources.

If your cream becomes very soft or melts in hot weather, put it in the fridge for about 20 minutes, or until firmer, and it should return to its normal consistency. This does not impair the cream and it will still be fine to use.

Refills and Reordering

When you find products you love, refills can be a practical way to top up while keeping your original packaging in use for longer. We offer refill sizes across many face, body, hair and hand care favourites.

Refills can also be helpful if you already know which products suit your skin and want to reduce repeat packaging. You can browse our main refills collection, or look specifically at face refills and accessories.

What About SPF?

We do not add SPF to our creams. SPF does not suit everyone, and our focus is on delivering nourishing, skin-loving products first and foremost.

For daytime, apply your chosen sunscreen separately as the final step in your morning routine, following the manufacturer's directions. Reapply as directed, especially after sweating, swimming, towel drying or if the product may have rubbed off.

Need Help Choosing?

If you are still asking what skincare products should I use, keep it simple. Start with your skin type, choose a cleanser and moisturiser, then add serum, toner, face oil or exfoliator depending on what your skin needs.

If you are unsure which range is right for you, our skin type guide can help you choose between Rejuvenate, Gentle, Enrich and Neutralize.
