Dried my skin

Hi there, we're sorry to hear you found the bakuchiol oil dried your skin. All our plant oils are humectants so if you were using the oil on its own or switching from previous moisturisers and your skin feels dry, then it could be the case that your skin needs more moisturising than just an oil on its own. Maybe layer the oil so apply the oil first then apply a cream based moisturiser like our Rejuvenate Day Cream over the top to help lock in moisture and prevent skin drying out. Hope this helps!

What is bakuchiol oil (also called bakuchi/babchi oil)?

Our Bakuchiol Oil is the whole cold-pressed seed oil of the babchi plant (Psoralea corylifolia), also known as bakuchi or babchi seed oil. It naturally contains bakuchiol alongside the other components of the seed oil. It is often chosen by people looking for a plant-based alternative to conventional retinol routines. Visit our Bakuchiol vs Retinol blog post to discover more.

Suitable for:

  • Dry, sensitive or reactive skin types
  • Anyone seeking a natural anti-ageing solution
  • Acne-prone or inflamed skin

How to use

Apply 2–3 drops to clean skin. We recommend starting with evening use. Use alone or follow with moisturiser or night cream if your skin needs a richer finish. If using in the daytime on exposed skin, follow with broad-spectrum SPF.

Our cold-pressed bakuchiol oil absorbs readily and can be used as the facial-oil step in a simple evening skincare routine.

Bakuchiol Oil for Dark Spots & Pigmentation

Bakuchiol helps improve the look of uneven tone and dark spots by supporting skin renewal and a more even complexion—without the sensitivity often linked to strong retinoids.

  • How to target pigmentation: Apply 2–3 drops nightly to clean, dry skin for at least 8–12 weeks.
  • Pro tip: Use daily SPF in the morning to help prevent new dark spots.

Morning vs Evening: How to Layer Bakuchiol Oil

  • Morning, if using: Cleanse → bakuchiol oil → moisturiser → SPF → make-up (optional). Absorbs quickly and preps skin for a smooth base.
  • Evening: Cleanse → bakuchiol oil → richer cream if desired. This is our recommended starting point for simple overnight nourishment.
  • With actives: Pairs well with niacinamide and hydrating serums; avoid pairing with strong retinoids.

Bakuchiol for Sensitive or Acne-Prone Skin

This gentle-feeling botanical oil can be a good choice when conventional retinol feels too harsh. It supports a comfortable routine and a clearer-looking complexion.

  • Sensitive skin: Patch test first, then start with 2–3 evenings per week and increase gradually if your skin feels comfortable.
  • Blemish-prone: Use after cleansing and before a light moisturiser. Non-greasy and fast-absorbing.

“Feels lovely on my skin, very light and not heavily greasy. Great underneath my daily moisturiser. Very pleased.”

FAQ

What does bakuchiol oil do?

It supports a smoother-looking texture and helps reduce the visible signs of ageing. It can be a gentler-feeling option for people who find conventional retinol routines too strong.

Is bakuchiol safe during pregnancy?

Many choose bakuchiol as a retinol-free option during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Pregnancy-specific evidence is limited, so please check with your GP or midwife before use.

Will it clog pores?

Bakuchiol oil has a lightweight feel and is well tolerated by most skin types.

What does it smell like?

It has a mild, nutty and earthy scent – no synthetic fragrance is added.

How is this different to other bakuchiol oils?

Ours is 100% whole, cold-pressed Psoralea corylifolia seed oil, with no added carrier oils, fillers or fragrance. Some other skincare products use purified bakuchiol at a controlled percentage in a cream, serum or oil base. These are different materials, so their percentages are not directly comparable with whole cold-pressed seed oil.

Can I use bakuchiol with vitamin C?

Yes. Apply water-based serums first, then bakuchiol oil, then moisturiser and SPF.

How long does bakuchiol take to work?

Most people notice a smoother look in 4–8 weeks with consistent use. For dark spots and tone, allow 8–12 weeks with consistent SPF in the daytime.

Do I need to dilute this oil?

No — our cold-pressed bakuchiol oil is natural Psoralea corylifolia seed oil. Apply a few drops directly to skin after a patch test.

Is bakuchi oil the same as babchi oil?

Yes — bakuchi is a common spelling for babchi. Our oil is the cold-pressed seed oil of Psoralea corylifolia and naturally contains bakuchiol.
