'Ethical Skincare' can mean different things to people. It's a phrase covering many aspects of skincare manufacturing and retail.
So what do we mean by Ethical Skincare?

Independent accreditation as an ethical company. Ethical Consumer audited Conscious Skincare in 2019 and awarded our entire range a 'Best Buy' and here's how they rated us. We also gained some of the highest scores in all of the different product categories for our ethical approach.

Working with Fairtrade co-operatives to source ingredients and raw materials. For example, our Shea Butter and Cocoa Butter used in our face creams and body butters is produced by a fair-trade organisation in Ghana, West Africa. In an area of high unemployment and poverty this helps to improve the lives of local people in a sustainable way.

Partnering with fair-trade organisations like Freeset to produce high quality goods in an ethical way.
Choosing to work with great companies like this does make a real difference to communities. Freeset works to transform the lives of women in India. Formerly trafficked and exploited, they are now part of a community providing homes, education, income and freedom. All things we sometimes take for granted. Healthcare, childcare, training are all provided and help prevent future exploitation.

We believe the ethical treatment of animals should be a global standard. Our skincare is fully approved by PETA. In addition we proudly display the cruelty free logo on all our products and also ensure our products are certified vegan. Sadly this is not the case for many companies operating in the cosmetics and skincare industry.

How do ingredients impact the planet and animals? Palm Oil is a cheap ingredient in skincare and food. Sourcing and growing Palm Oil has devastating consequences for the environment and wildlife so we will never use it. See what else we leave out too!

Packaging is also another consideration in ethical skincare. You can read about our eco-friendly packaging where we use recycled and recyclable materials like paper, glass, cardboard and aluminium. This does have a clear impact on the planet we all share.
